The aim of education is to prepare children to be successful lifelong learners.
Below is our kaupapa (what we expect from our children) by offering an environment rich in learning experiences where every child is valued and has an important place in our house and community.
Life Long Learners (Manaakitanga)
Be creative, know how to ask for help, defend their and others rights, understand the values of honesty, reliability, and courtesy, be accountable for own actions, work independently, play imaginatively, use negotiation skills, asked open ended questions, manage own feelings safely, use manners, understand rules, rights and fairness.
Self-Management (Whanaungatanga)
Dress themselves, manage a lunchbox confidently, take turns, take care of own belongings, blow their own nose, clean their own teeth and groom themselves, toilet independently and wash own hands, be respectful and listen to others talking, understand the basics of sustainability and respect the environment, have physical confidence i.e. climbing, jumping, developing ball skills, playing team games etc, can follow 2-3 instructions at one time, take turns and offer others a turn.
Numeracy
Understand positioning i.e. up, down, under, over in front of etc. understand probability of events i.e. may, never, sometimes etc. understand basic fractions i.e. ½ and ¼, know the days of the week and months of the year. Understand seasons and how they work. Compare weights i.e. heavy, light, recognize basic shapes, know primary colours and understand how to create other colours, recognize and create patterns, can count to 20 and backward from 10 and know the numbers before or after, can use Te Reo to count to 10.
Literacy
Enjoy reading and being read to, can retell a story orally and through pictures and print, develop language skills i.e. predicting, reasoning, guessing etc, begin to understand the basics of language i.e. rhyme, alliteration, opposites etc, begin to use capital letters correctly for their name, can recognize and write own name and recognize basic words.
